The Education Support Professional (ESP) salary structure is based upon a core group of wage grades. The core grades R12 - R30 reflect a days worked calendar consisting of 260 work days per year, working 8 hours per day. Six (6) paid holidays and ten (10) paid vacation days are included in the 260 work days.
Several ESP jobs have a less than 260 days worked calendar, and therefore the compensation is a prorated amount of their core grade equivalent. For these core equivalent salary grades, any applicable holiday or vacation days are not added as days into the work calendar, but rather, the value of those days are built into the hourly rate.
To show how the core equivalent salary grades are calculated, the example below shows how the hourly salary rate for Job Code 9318: Site Manager 2 – FNS, at 8 hours/day for 181 workdays is related to its core grade of R18.

In addition to salary grades, the Education Support Professional Wage Schedule contains multiple steps. The core salary grades (R12-R30) and the majority of other salary grades contain steps 1 - 7, and longevity steps of 11, 16, and 21. Steps 1 - 7 reflect the increases an employee receives as they perform effectively and gain experience within a job over time. Steps 11, 16 and 21 are designed to reward and recognize an employee’s longevity and commitment to the District as they complete 10, 15 and 20 years of service in an ESP job.
New employees to the District will be placed in the step that aligns with the years of job-related experience up to a maximum of step 4. Job-related experience will be determined by Human Resources and the hiring manager as part of the job offer process.
Two separate documents are needed to determine the compensation rate for an ESP job:
