Grateful People are Happy People... it's a Fact!

Gratitude = the positive state of being grateful; an overwhelming feeling of appreciation and thankfulness, and the desire to return kindness to others. Help your family cultivate gratitude all month long!

Join Jeffco Public Schools as we explore all the ways to practice gratefulness during the month of November. Make time to use the weekly resources and activities to make it easier!

Week 1: Smile

Studies show that the simple act of smiling can actually change the way you feel, regardless of why you are smiling.

  • lowers blood pressure
  • reduces pain
  • makes you attractive
  • helps you stay positive
  • relieves stress
  • elevates mood
  • is contagious
  • boosts the immune system

Week 3: Use a Gratitude Journal

 

Writing down three good things at the end of each day has shown to:

  • relieve stress
  • lift depressed feelings
  • improve health
  • build resilience
  • bring on a smile

Week 2: Get Competitive with Family Gratitude
Bingo

  • Print a bingo card for each family member
  • Create a menu of free or low cost prizes, depending on how many squares get filled

 

Week 4: Stop Comparing

Description: Learn to collaboratively problem solve WITH your child. Andrea Philleo, M.S., M.S.W., LCSW - Founder and the Executive Director of the Colorado Wellness Center for Girls. She is a long time advocate of understanding and meeting the mental health needs of adolescents in the community. Her work focuses on wellness based interventions, strength-based approaches, coping skills utilization and parent collaboration.

 Learn strength-based ways to:

  • initiate a positive conversation with your child when they are struggling
  • identify emotions when expectations are met
  • reframe your child's "behavior problem"
  • identify issues that may be unresolved and preventing family connection
  • help your child strengthen their undeveloped skills
  • come up with solutions that actually satisfy your child and you
